At Nairobi National Park you'll enjoy a safari experience inside a protected reserve that sits within the city. The park offers the chance to spot some of Africa’s most iconic species, often on half-day tours that take you through open grass plains with Nairobi’s skyscrapers visible on the skyline. As you move through the park you will look for endangered animal species living in their natural habitat.
Along the way you may see four of the Big Five, depending on sightings, and you will take in the contrast between wildlife and the nearby capital. The experience will let you drive across wide plains and observe animals against the backdrop of the city, giving a close-to-the-city wildlife encounter that remains rooted in conservation and habitat viewing.
From $150 pp

This experience includes visits to the Giraffe Centre and the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust’s Elephant Orphanage. At the Giraffe Centre you will learn about its exclusive work to protect and breed the endangered Rothschild giraffe. The centre’s focus on this subspecies is explained, including the conservation and breeding efforts aimed at safeguarding one of the most threatened giraffe populations in the world.
At the Elephant Orphanage you will hear how the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust rescues and rehabilitates orphaned elephants, many of which have lost their parents to poaching. The orphanage’s care programmes and the process of nurturing youngsters until they are old enough to be reintroduced into the wild are described. Together, these visits provide a clear picture of two conservation initiatives and the practical steps taken to protect and restore vulnerable wildlife.
From $85

At the Giraffe Center in Nairobi, you’ll get a close look at Rothschild giraffes and gain a different perspective on this endangered species. The visit centres on observation rather than spectacle, so you’ll move through the centre’s grounds and take in the animals from a raised platform and along a walking trail. This gives a chance to see their behaviour and markings from closer distances than are usually possible in the wild.
Along the way, you’ll learn about the Rothschild giraffe’s status and why they are a rare sight in natural habitats. The layout of the Giraffe Center lets you watch the animals calmly as they move and feed, often allowing much closer views than typical safari encounters. The experience focuses on observation and understanding, so you can appreciate these distinctive giraffes in a setting designed to bring you nearer to them while highlighting their conservation needs.
